 Big Shoulders Swim Race

Starting in 1991, Bill Mulliken, (a 1960 Olympic Gold medalist) has started a 2.5/5K swim race in Downtown Chicago at Ohio St Beach. The downtown Chicago skyline is in the background of the swim.

The race has been held every year since 1991, except 2020 due to covid. The swim has a wetsuit and non-wetsuit division. The water in September in Lake Michigan can be as cold as 60 degrees F!

Seth Baetzold has swam this race without a wetsuit and in 2021 finished 13th overall, 4th in 25-29.

In 2019 Seth was 11th overall (no wetsuit) and 1st in the 18-24 age group!

The link to the race is below!

The race entry opens up in March and many times has sold out between 1-3 days of opening!
